Drift through Scenic Ozark Landscapes and Tempt the River's Vibrant Fish
What a great day out on the water! I had the pleasure of guiding Steven on a relaxing Half-Day Float Trip on the North Fork River down in Dora, MO. June is the perfect time of year for this type of laid-back river fishing, with comfortable weather and active fish. We met up at Hammond Mill Camp, Inc. early in the morning, geared up, and headed out to make the most of the day.
Even though we didn't manage to land any big fish, we still had a blast working the river. Steven tried his hand at throwing big swimbaits and did a great job adapting to the different techniques. The water was in excellent shape, with just the right flow and clarity to give us a good chance at tempting the fish. We drifted through some sweet spots, casting to feeding lanes and likely holding areas, but the fish seemed to have other plans today.
Still, the time on the river was incredibly relaxing. The partly cloudy skies kept things comfortable, and we got to take in the beautiful Ozark scenery at a leisurely pace. We swapped stories, talked tactics, and just enjoyed being out on the water together. That's what these types of trips are all about—the experience, not just the catches. And I'd say we nailed that perfectly.
